Elephant Rescue

Elephant Sanctuaries

Elephant sanctuaries provide the care and well being elephants need.  Sanctuaries rescue and raise former working elephants that have been in the circus or been at riding camps in a natural elephant environment.

On my trip to Thailand, I was lucky enough to visit Elephant Jungle Sanctuary and Elephant Nature Park. These sanctuaries work hard to make sure elephants are happy and in a natural and safe environment that is cage and fence free.

It is important for elephants to be in a sanctuary because elephants have been considered an endangered species since 1986 and there are only 35,000 to 40,000 wild Asian elephants left in the world. Over the past three decades elephant numbers have dropped over 50% and they are restricted to only 15% of there original habitat. We need to take action!
